Following a three-year hiatus from in-person gatherings, this meeting brought together regional coordinators from four Regional GCED Networks, encompassing the Arab States, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Sub-Saharan Africa in Seoul to share their achievements in advancing Global Citizenship Education (GCED) in their respective regions over the past year and discuss current challenges and potential ways to strengthen GCED implementation on both regional and global levels. The meeting commenced with the opening remarks from Mr Hyun Mook Lim, Director of APCEIU. In his remarks, Mr Lim reiterated the objectives of the GCED network and expressed optimism for generating fresh momentum to advance GCED within the various regions. Following the opening remarks, Ms Cecilia Barbieri, Chief of the Section of Global Citizenship and Peace Education at UNESCO HQs, welcomed the participants and gave a presentation on the future directions of GCED. Additionally, she underscored the significance of the revision of the 1974 recommendation and provided insights into UNESCO's strategies for upcoming years. APCEIU then offered an overview of the GCED Network programme since its inception. Regional coordinators from 4 regions were also invited to share the latest GCED programmes/initiatives and opportunities for implementing GCED and suggestions for joint GCED actions. Dr Faryal Khan from the UNESCO Bangkok Office gave updates on the GCED activities in the Asia-Pacific region, including the GCED publication targeting different Learners. Dr Charles Chikunda from the UNESCO Harare Office presented on the GCED activities in Sub-Saharan Africa, including the integration of GCED and Southern Africa Liberation History in the curriculum. Mr Cristián Bravo, from the UNESCO Santiago Office, presented on GCED activities in the LAC region, such as capacity building MOOC. Similarly, Ms Nour Osta from the UNESCO Beirut Office provided updates on the GCED activities in the region, including the integration of GCED into higher education institutions. The participants also engaged in a discussion session led by Director Lim of APCEIU. Participants discussed strategies to enhance the integration of Global Citizenship Education within their specific regions. Other Key topics explored during this session encompassed the significance of youth voices and the role of academia in integrating GCED, the importance of synergies among existing networks, fostering a shared understanding of GCED, and potential future partnerships between different offices and networks. URL:https://www.unescoapceiu.org/post/4915 ⓒ APCEIU Advanced Workshop on GCED for Alumni in 2023 2023-11-02 APCEIU held the 'Advanced Workshop on Global Citizenship Education (GCED) for Alumni in 2023' from October 16th (Monday) to 22nd (Sunday). This workshop brought together 27 educators and youth leaders from 13 countries who have diligently implemented GCED projects in their local communities over the past three years. Participants, who have been practising GCED in various social and educational settings, engaged in in-depth workshops that included poster presentations, case study forums, and participation in 'The 8th International Conference on Global Citizenship Education’, and also shared their experiences and discussed the diverse possibilities, impacts, and future directions of GCED. On the first day, during the poster presentation session, participants displayed various visual materials such as posters, brochures, pamphlets, reports, or case study videos to introduce and share their educational activities and projects. Additionally, through four case study forums, all participants shared their experiences in teacher education, global citizenship education practices in classrooms and communities, and youth-led global citizenship education activities. They presented the effects and influences of their activities on students, fellow educators, schools, and local communities based on their years of experience. After the presentations, there were discussion sessions where they shared advice and ideas for future activities. On October 18th and 19th, during the two-day conference, 'The 8th International Conference on Global Citizenship Education,' participants engaged as speakers, panelists, debaters, and attendees. Through presentations, debates, and exchanges with GCED experts, educators, and practitioners worldwide, participants had the opportunity to learn about various GCED practices, policies, and development strategies globally. This allowed them to broaden their perspectives and identify potential future collaborative partnerships for their future activities. Following the conference, participants engaged in workshops with themes such as ''Critical Digital Citizenship' and 'Creating Peaceful and Safe Learning Spaces.' During the 'Critical Digital Citizenship' workshop, participants utilized the Media and Information Literacy (MIL) guidebook developed by APCEIU, which allowed them to integrate digital citizenship into their GCED projects, critically examining the competencies and roles that contemporary global citizens should possess. Also, participants discussed the significance of creating peaceful and safe learning spaces and practical plans educators should pursue in that learning culture in diverse educational settings. On the last day, participants shared their impressions, insights, practical applications, and future plans based on the three elements of GCED, known as '3H' (Head, Hand, and Heart - Cognitive, Socio-Emotional, and Behavioral). They expressed that this workshop allowed for a deeper understanding of the true meaning of GCED. They emphasized that they had the meaningful opportunity to experience interconnectedness and a sense of solidarity, reflect on their past educational activities, and contemplate their roles as global citizens and practitioners, strengthening their determination to promote GCED. Participants committed to continue networking with fellow educators and youth leaders, promoting and practising global citizenship education. URL:https://www.unescoapceiu.org/post/4909 © APCEIU Indonesian Educators Working on GCED Curriculum Integration: Capacity-building Workshop to Develop GCED-integrated Teaching Modules for Indonesia 2023-10-22 3 August 2023 The GCED Capacity Building Workshop for Indonesian Teachers’ Professional Development: Curricular Integration was held in Seoul, Korea from 24 to 28 July and successfully concluded with inspiring presentations from Indonesian teachers and resourceful comments from APCEIU experts.Indonesia is one of the partner countries for the 3rd Round (2021-2023) of the GCED Curriculum Development and Integration Project (GCED CDI), which APCEIU has been carrying out since 2016, to facilitate the partner country to mainstream GCED through curricular integration.The GCED Capacity Building Workshop, organized by APCEIU in collaboration with the Directorate General of Teacher and Educational Personnel, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (DGTEP), aimed to enhance Indonesian Curriculum Development Committee (CDC) members’ understanding of GCED, capacity to integrate GCED into their teaching and curricula, and the draft teaching modules and lesson plans at primary school level. The workshop started with an opening ceremony, welcomed by APCEIU Director Mr. Hyun Mook Lim, and attended by fifteen Indonesian CDC members, including Ms. Nunuk Suryani, Director General of DGTEP, who gave the opening remarks. Mr. Gogot Suharwoto, Education attache of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Seoul, ROK also attended the ceremony on behalf of the Ambassador, delivering his congratulatory remarks. The Workshop mainly provided a series of GCED seminars and write-up sessions to enhance the CDC’s competences in designing GCED integrated teaching modules and to review and revise their draft modules. Held in S. Korea, the Workshop also provided Indonesian participants with opportunities to learn about GCED practices in S. Korea and to network with Korean teachers. Good practices of GCED presented by GCED lead teachers in Korea inspired Indonesian CDC members, while the joint sessions with 30 Korean teachers were a great opportunity to learn and discuss intercultural understanding and socio-emotional learning and to share their ideas on GCED integrated classes. Based on the seminars, discussions, and consultations provided through the workshop, especially through the write-shop sessions, the draft teaching modules and lesson plans prepared by the Indonesian CDC were discussed and reviewed. The final presentations of their revision plans clearly demonstrated the participants’ enhanced understanding of GCED and curriculum integration and their effective integration of what had been learned throughout the Workshop. At the workshop, various lectures, presentations, and exemplars from all over the world were shared. Dr Toh Swee-Hin, Ms Lisa van Wyk, Ms. Molly Beauregard, Dr Hans Schattle, Ms Jennifer Geist, Ms Lea Espallardo, Mr Jefferson Plantilla, Ms Ivy Josiah and Dr Jason Beech participated as a facilitator, delivered insightful lectures and presentations. Moreover, alumni of APCEIU shared their own experiences and projects, inspiring participants and encouraging them to explore alternative and innovative ideas and approaches. Despite the time zone difference, all participants exhibited unwavering enthusiasm and engagement during both real-time and non-real-time sessions. They actively participated in online small group meetings, even extending discussions beyond regular sessions to review their learnings and exchange ideas. The 8th Global Capacity-Building Workshop on GCED concluded on 21 July, 2023, with a closing ceremony led by Lim Hyun-mook, the Director of UNESCO APCEIU, expressing his appreciation to all attendees for this workshop. Participants who have successfully completed the 8th Global Capacity-Building Workshop on GCED are given the opportunity to apply for the mentorship by APCEIU’s experts group, where they will be provided with the advice on their project planning and implementation, along with the grant for project execution by APCEIU.  URL:https://www.unescoapceiu.org/post/4864 © APCEIU Workshop for GCED Schools in Bangkok, Thailand 2023-08-14 On July 23, the GCED Cooperation Centre (Director: Prof. Athapol Anunthavorasakul, Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University), established at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand through an MOU with APCEIU in 2021, held a workshop for GCED Schools in Bangkok in cooperation with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (hereafter, BMA) to develop an action plan for integrating GCED into existing curriculum, and participated by about 60 teachers from these schools. This workshop is a special occasion as it is the first time a local government has supported the activities of a GCED Cooperation Centre (hereafter, GCC), and The BMA will continue to cooperate with the GCC-Thailand on capacity building activities for teachers in Bangkok. In his congratulatory remarks delivered during the opening session of the workshop, Dr Lim Hyun-mook, Director of APCEIU, explained the special partnership between Thailand and South Korea and expressed his gratitude and congratulations to Chulalongkorn University for its participation in the GCC project, which APCEIU has implemented with the support of the Korean government since 2021. In addition, Dr Min Joung Park from the Institute for Global Citizenship Education at APCEIU introduced the GCED Lead Teacher Program in Korea and the GCED Policy of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education. The following day, the delegation visited Bangkok City Hall and held a one-hour policy meeting with Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, and Sanon Wangsrangboon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok in charge of social development and education, to share the GCED Lead Teacher Program in Korea and other GCED policies of the Metropolitan & Provincial Offices of Education in Korea. Bosire) 주 유네스코케냐대표부 대사는 개회사를 통해 예술 교육이 개인에 다양한 문화의 연결성을 일깨우고 함께 공유하는 문화 유산을 통해 세계시민교육의 핵심인 관용과 역동성을 갖춘 세계시민 양성을 언급하였다. 스테파니아 지아니니(Stefania Giannini) 유네스코 교육사무총장보는 세계시민교육과 예술 교육이 변혁 교육의 중심을 자리하는 강력한 힘임을 언급하며, 예술은 자기표현과 창의성, 그리고 자아인식을 함양하는 도구가 됨을 강조하였다. 또한 국경과 구분을 뛰어넘는 예술은 세계시민교육을 함양에 있어 가치있는 도구가 될 수 있음을 언급하였다.임현묵 아태교육원장의 진행 하에 4개 지역별 연구 및 사례 발표가 있었다. 핀란드 마리아-리나 윤투넨(Marja-Leena Juntunen) 음악교육과 교수, 유네스코 베이루트 사무소 마르코 파스쿠알리니(Marco Pasqualini) 교육 전문관, 한국 어윤일 교수, 그리고 나이지리아 <더 케이블> 클레어 맘 기자가 예술 교육을 통한 세계시민교육 사례와 프로젝트에 대한 발표를 진행하였다. 발표자들은 세계시민을 함양함에 있어 예술 교육의 중요성과 진행하고 있는 프로젝트와 연구 사례 및 관련 여러 당면 현안에 대해 발표하였다.임현묵 아태교육원장은 이번 행사를 통해 세계시민교육 증진에 있어 예술 교육의 중요성을 알고 있는 것에만 그치는 것이 아니라 적극적인 실천이 필요함을 강조하였다. 또한, 교육의 전환시대에 세계시민교육과 예술교육이 교육개혁을 위한 효과적인 도구가 될 수 있음을 강조하며 행사를 마무리 하였다. URL: https://unescoapceiu.org/post/4832 © 유네스코 아태교육원 유네스코 아태교육원, 2023년도 아태지역 교원연수 실시 2023-06-30 유네스코 아태교육원은 2023년 5월 30일부터 6월 7일까지 아시아 태평양 지역 16개 유네스코 회원국의 56명의 교육자들이 참석한 가운데 2023년도 아태지역 교원연수 (Asia-Pacific Training Workshop on EIU/GCED)를 개최하였다. 올해 워크숍은 '세계시민교육, 변화를 위한 공동의 비전 (GCED as a common vision for change)'이라는 세부 주제 하에 진행되었다. 본 연수에서 참가자들은 지속가능발전목표 및 세계시민교육의 다양한 주제 영역 뿐 아니라, 보다 혁신적이고 창의적인 세계시민교육 페다고지에 대해서도 더 깊게 배우는 등 변혁적 교육에 대해 탐구하고 토론하는 의미 있는 시간을 가졌다.참가자들은 크게 1) 실시간 전문가 특강 및 질의응답과 2) 소그룹 활동을 통하여 지식을 쌓았고, 학습자, 동료 교육가 및 소속 지역사회와 함께 세계시민교육을 실천할 수 있는 구체적인 방안에 대하여 고찰하였다.먼저, 참가자들은 실시간 전문가 특강을 통하여, 글로컬 정의, 불평등, 양성 평등과 포용적 교육, 미디어 리터러시와 디지털 시민성을 포함한 사회·교육적 현안에 대해 돌아보며, 교육가 및 교사의 역할에 대하여 고민하는 시간을 가졌다. 변혁적 교수법 관련 세션에서는 효과적인 세계시민교육 교수법 및 확산 방안에 대하여 심도 깊은 논의를 진행하였다. 뿐만 아니라, 기 참가자들과의 대화를 통해 성공적인 후속 프로젝트 사례와 이를 위한 전략에 대해 배우고 논의하는 시간을 가지기도 하였다.참가자들은 소그룹 활동 및 토론을 통해 배우고 느낀 점들 및 각자의 경험을 나누며 학습을 심화하였다. 이를 통해 쌓인 아이디어들을 바탕으로, 워크숍 마지막 날 참가자들은 세계시민교육 후속활동 계획에 대해 공유하는 시간을 가졌다. 본 워크숍은 각 참가자들의 세계시민교육 후속활동에 대한 기대와 함께 성료되었다. 아태교육원은 워크숍 수료자 중 지원 및 선정된 참가자를 대상으로 멘토십/그랜트 프로그램을 운영하여, 7월-8월 중 전문가 멘토십을 및 그랜트 지급을 통해, 이후 세계시민교육 프로젝트를 실천에 옮길 수 있도록 지원할 계획이다.URL: https://unescoapceiu.org/post/4821
