Thomson Reuters “Fact or Fiction” Contest
Thomson Reuters, in partnership with NAMLE, is excited to announce our second Media Literacy contest for students and classrooms!
We live in an increasingly digital world – media is no longer just information we see or hear from journalists. Anyone has the ability to create and disseminate content, but it is not always done in a responsible or professional manner. Critical thinking and media literacy are key skills that are needed in today’s world.
At a time when society is increasingly polarized, we are asking students in the U.S. and Canada:
“How can media literacy education help build a more unified society?”
Students are invited to share with us their thoughts via video submission and we encourage teachers to leverage the resources we’ve created to present this as a learning opportunity in their classrooms.
Submission Guidelines
Contest Dates: September 1, 2021 – October 8, 2021
Submission Deadline: October 8, 2021 at 5:00pm EDT
Eligible Participants: Middle and High School students from anywhere in the United States and Canada
Judges: Staff from the National Association for Media Literacy Education and Reuters

Video must consist of one of two formats;
- Express your thoughts direct to us in front of the camera OR
- Choose a partner and conduct an interview
We encourage you to leverage our misinformation resources here to help educate and guide you. Show us your personality and don’t be afraid to get creative.
- Video must not exceed 2 minutes in length.
- Video must be uploaded to VIMEO or YouTube.
- Submissions can be uploaded here.
Up to 5 students will be selected from this contest to receive a virtual mentorship opportunity with one of our esteemed Reuters journalists.
